About the Filmmakers
The team behind Under the Light of the Silver Moon is a dedicated group of storytellers passionate about preserving the cinematic heritage of Florida. Our mission is to document the human connection to the Silver Moon Drive-In, exploring why this landmark remains a vital part of the Lakeland community after eight decades.
Joel G. Robertson
Director & Producer
Joel Robertson is a filmmaker, storyteller, and the creative force behind Under the Light of the Silver Moon, overseeing the documentary’s vision, narrative, and creative direction.
A graduate of Winter Haven High School, Joel caught the filmmaking bug while working on high school video productions (shout out to Mr. Morgan!).
He made his first feature film in 1999 and later followed it with the short film Shadows of the Dead. The short was selected by Fangoria Magazine for inclusion in the inaugural Blood Drive DVD short film compilation, which was distributed to video stores across America, including Blockbuster, Movie Gallery, and other major retailers.
Joel worked as a teacher with Polk County Public Schools for several years before joining Publix’s Education and Training Department.
For more than a decade, Joel has worked alongside his wife in their family business while raising and homeschooling their three sons — all while rediscovering his passion for filmmaking.
His most recent short film, The One Who Waits Below, featured scenes shot at the Silver Moon Drive-In and went on to win Best Short Film at the 2026 Tampa Bay Screams Film Festival.
Heather Robertson
Producer
Heather Robertson oversees production and coordination for Under the Light of the Silver Moon, helping bring the documentary’s vision to life.
Heather worked as a teacher with Polk County Public Schools for several years before choosing to stay home after the birth of her first son.
Over a five-year period, while raising her three sons, Heather lost 170 pounds — more than half her body weight — through healthy eating, exercise, and sustainable lifestyle changes.
In 2012, shortly after reaching her goal weight, Heather and Joel launched the Half Size Me podcast. As host, Heather welcomed a wide variety of guests who shared their personal successes, setbacks, and journeys toward better health.
Over time, the podcast evolved into a coaching business that has helped thousands of people lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Heather’s approach to health and wellness emphasizes mindset, habit change, and practical, sustainable strategies for long-term success.
Her background as an interviewer, entrepreneur, and storyteller — combined with her genuine ability to connect with people — makes her a vital part of the Under the Light of the Silver Moon team.
